What is an endodontic treatment?
The endodontic treatment is the procedure of cleaning and shaping of the root canals and then hermetically filling them with an appropriate material. With the endodontic treatment the root canals are being cleaned from the diseased pulp and disinfected from the bacteria. Then they are filled thoroughly as so to avoid any future re-infenction, thus leaving the tooth functional in the mouth.
After the completion of a successful endodontic treatment and the removal of the bacteria, our immune system will heal on its own any possible remaining abscess, fistula or periapical lesion.
The healing takes some time, usually about a year. Your doctor may have you come in for re-exam and take a new X-ray which he/she will compare with the old ones and inform you about the course of the healing.
