The Endodontist is a specialized Dentist who has undergone additional postgraduate training for at least two years and has become a specialist in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dental pulp diseases and periapical infection. The treatment provided by an Endodontist is called endodontic therapy, commonly known as “root canal treatment”.

An Endodontist has the special training, the experience and the necessary equipment to deal more effectively with difficult and complicated cases.

A General Dentist or a Dentist of any other specialty is the one to decide if the patient should be refferred to an Endodontist. His decision will be based on the diagnosic and therapeutic difficulty of the case, the clinical importance of the specific tooth and his/hers skills.

The dentist’s decision to refer the patient to a specialist shows responsibility as it proves that his main concern and priority is the best possible treatment of the patient’s needs.
